Why
Distance Learning
For
those who work full time or cannot travel to become a full
time student, distance learning could be the perfect
solution. Our methodology is synchronous instructor-led training with a teacher live over the phone and the Internet (web conference).
Distance
learning, particularly in its online form, does seem ideally
suited to nontraditional students who may be pressed by job
and family concerns and still desirous of knowledge.

Using
the Internet to teach the class.
The
Internet can help provide a more entertaining and
interactive virtual class experience. The virtual class is
like a collaborative virtual conference. It allows the
teacher to hold an audio conference, and at the same time,
give the students the capability to use a whiteboard and
collaborate over a document or software application.

visual communication. It will:

Benefits
of using Phone & Web collaboration used to teach the
class
Our
teaching methodology is highly innovative. All instruction
is administered using the Internet to share visuals and the
telephone for sharing the audio. Learning is much better by
telephone than in a face-to-face settings
because participants become used
to voice, rather than non-verbal gestures. Since
face-to-face learning uses on non-verbal signs, most of
what you think you hear is non-verbal. Thus, telephone and
web collaboration training provide better learning results.
Most students taught face-to-face choke up when confronted
by a telephone call in Spanish. These students are just not
used to manage real language situations.

Do I have to pay the
long-distance charges, or do I get a toll free number?
Yes, you
would have to pay the long distance charges to your own phone company, but it is worth
the additional investment. These would only be long
distance charges within the US (a few cents per minute). We can refer
you to a long distance service that only charges 3.4 cents
per minute anywhere in the US (MCI, AT&T). Your investment is $2 for
each hour of class. Toll free numbers charge ten time more
and we would not want to pass that cost to the student. All
our instructors are based in the US.

What
are the minimum computer requirements?
-
Most
modern computers can easily handle the web
collaboration as long as the following requirements are
met:
-
Windows
computer. Pentium 1 GHz processor is preferred.
Apple Mac is not supported.
-
Microsoft
Internet Explorer web browser to be version 5.0 or
higher. It does not support Netscape.
-
In
addition to your Internet connection (cable, DSL, or phone dial
up), you will need another phone to hear the audio.
The visuals are transmitted to your browser using
the web collaboration software (via your cable, DSL, or dial up
connection) and the audio is through the telephone,
therefore with your internet access you need a
simultaneous telephone line.
-
Your
browser must be Java enabled.
